Ireland’s Finn Lynch remains at the top of the 2026 ILCA 7 Men’s World Championship following the second day of racing in Dún Laoghaire.
Two scheduled races were completed on Dublin Bay, bringing the Qualifying Series to a close with five races now sailed.
Racing began in approximately 11 knots of breeze with some swell. The wind later eased to between seven and nine knots, while the sea state also became flatter, presenting the fleet with another day of changing tactical conditions.
Lynch followed his outstanding opening day with second- and seventh-place finishes in the yellow fleet. With one discard applied, the National Yacht Club sailor leads the championship on nine net points.
Germany’s Ole Schweckendiek is three points behind in second place, with Hungary’s Jonatán Vadnai third on 14 points.
Britain’s Michael Beckett produced the strongest performance of the day, recording first- and third-place finishes to move from 15th to fifth overall. Fellow British sailor Elliot Hanson sits fourth, while Croatia’s two-time Olympic medallist Tonci Stipanovic is sixth. All three are tied on 15 points.
Reigning Olympic champion Matt Wearn of Australia remains firmly in contention in tenth place on 20 points.
There was also an encouraging day for Ireland’s Ewan McMahon. Finishes of eighth and 13th moved the Howth Yacht Club sailor from 48th to 37th overall.
Fiachra McDonnell is 99th, Tom Coulter 112th, Bobby Driscoll 128th and Roger Craig 134th as the remaining members of the Irish team continue their campaigns against an exceptionally strong international fleet.
The championship now moves into its Elimination Series, with competitors divided into Gold, Silver and Bronze fleets. Two further races are scheduled for Thursday, with the first warning signal planned for 12 noon.
