Eve McMahon Reaches Final Series as Charlotte Rose Retains Lead
With the ILCA 6 Women’s World Championship taking place just outside our door in Dún Laoghaire, Viking Marine is following the racing throughout the week, with particular attention on the four Irish sailors competing against the world’s best.
Ireland’s Eve McMahon has secured a place in Saturday’s top-ten Final Series, while American Charlotte Rose retains the championship lead.
One race was completed in the Gold and Silver fleets on Friday, bringing the championship total to ten. This activated a second discard, allowing each sailor to exclude two scores from her overall total.
McMahon finished 52nd in the Gold fleet, but was able to discard that result. The Howth Yacht Club sailor is ninth overall on 79 net points and advances to the championship finale.
Rose added a 12th-place finish and leads on 30 points after her second discard was applied. Belgium’s Emma Plasschaert is second on 39 points, with Denmark’s Anna Munch third on 50.
The Netherlands’ Maxime Jonker is fourth on 55 points, followed by Friday’s Gold fleet race winner Matilda Nicholls of Britain on 65 and Hungary’s Mária Érdi on 67.
Defending world champion Louise Cervera moves into seventh after finishing fourth. Britain’s Hannah Snellgrove is eighth, with McMahon and Poland’s Agata Barwińska completing the top ten on equal points.
New Zealand’s Greta Pilkington narrowly misses the Final Series in 11th, three points behind McMahon and Barwińska.
Annalise Murphy finished 31st in Friday’s race and concludes the Gold fleet stage in 24th overall on 147 points.
In the Silver fleet, Sienna Wright is 56th overall after finishing 30th. Lucy Ives recorded a 31st and is 82nd.
The championship concludes on Saturday with two short Final Series races for the top ten sailors, including McMahon. This is a class-specific format rather than a conventional single medal race. The remaining sailors will contest one final fleet race before the 2026 world champion is crowned.
Rose carries a nine-point advantage into the finale, while McMahon will represent Ireland in the battle for the world title.
